Ashley Hu, Aziza Ganihanova win events for the Lions
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Columbia women's swimming and diving team was back in action for the first time in 2024 on Saturday afternoon, but lost to the Brown Bears, 197-103, in Rhode Island.
We had a lot of solid performances, but Brown's depth and home pool advantage were too much to overcome," Head Coach Diana Caskey said. "We have another good challenge against Cornell tomorrow, and we are excited to race at home!"
Aziza Ganihanova continued her string of strong performances, winning the 500-free with a time of 4:53.36. She also took second place in the 200-fly with a time of 2:00.59.
Ashley Hu emerged victorious in the 200-breast, touching the wall with a time of 2:14.83. She also took second place in the 100-breast with a time of 1:01.73.
Allison Martin (200-IM) and Lindsay Orringer (1000-free) each had a second place finish.
As for the divers, Macy Pine shined. She took first place in the 3m with a score of 291.50 while taking second on the 1m boards with 255.08 points. Alice Diakova finished in second on the 3m boards with a score of 289.13.
"Macy and Alice are right where they want to be after very intense training trip," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. I was a particularly strong showing today from both Macy and Alice on the 3m board."
Full results from the meet, including all of the Lions' top performers and times, can be found HERE.
The Lions will be back at it tomorrow when they host Cornell at Uris Natatorium. The meet is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
