Adam Wu wins two events for the Lions
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Columbia men's swimming and diving team was back in action for the first time in 2024 on Saturday afternoon, but lost to the Brown Bears, 182-116, in Rhode Island.
"The light blue struggled today against a very solid Brown team," Head Coach Jim Bolster said. "We knew going into the meet that we would have to have exceptional performances just to keep it close and we did not get that. Nevertheless we did have some good performances, especially from Adam Wu, Isaac Beers, Stanford Li, and Brian Lee."
Wu was the star of the meet for the Lions, winning two events. He took first in the 200 fly with a time of 1:49.66, before going on to win the 500-free as well with a time of 4:32.24.
Beers won the first individual event of the afternoon for Columbia, winning the 100-back with a mark of 50.24.
Stanford Li completed the sweep in the backstroke events for the Lions, taking the 200-back with a time of 1:49.24.
Brian Lee touched the wall with a time of 48.55 in the 100-fly, good for first place.
As for the divers, Joseph Nicol's best performance came in the 3m, where he finished in second place with a score of 318.15. He scored 298.35 on the 1m bboards which was good for fourth.
"Joe is right where he wants to be, especially after very intense training trip," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "Really encouraging results for Joe in both events, particularly on the 3m boards."

"It definitely was a rough day for us," Bolster continued. "But we have lots to accomplish in the weeks ahead and I think the team is looking forward to the challenges."
The Lions will prepare for their first non-conference meet of the season this coming Friday when they will hit the road to take on Army in West Point. The meet will begin at 5:00 p.m.
