Field Hockey Drops Overtime Battle to Delaware on Sunday

Lions held a 1-0 lead until last play of regulation
NEW YORK — Columbia field hockey fell to Delaware on Sunday in overtime, 2-1, at Columbia Field Hockey Complex.
Columbia (3-9, 1-4) took a 1-0 lead with 5:37 left in the second quarter on Jacinta Solari Etcheberry's first collegiate career goal. Solari Etcheberry poked a loose ball into the cage for the first goal of the afternoon.
Delaware scored off a penalty corner as time expired in regulation to send the match to overtime at 1-1. The Blue Hens would win the game 5:56 into the first overtime period when Iris Bekker found the back of the cage for her second goal of the afternoon.
Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer had six saves in the loss. Columbia was outshot 15-8 (8-3 on goal). Solari Etcheberry and Sophia Abate had the shots on goal for the Lions. Sunday's match was Columbia's fifth overtime game of the season.
Sunday was Columbia's Mental Health Awareness and Alumni Day. The Lions are on the road next weekend to play at Yale on Friday and at Lehigh on Sunday.
