HANOVER, N.H. -- The Columbia volleyball team continued its road trip to begin conference play on Saturday night, traveling to New Hampshire to take on the Dartmouth Big Green. In three sets, it was the Big Green emerging victorious (25-18, 25-22, 25-17).
Harper Justema opened the first set with a kill, but the Lions were never really able to find their footing. With Dartmouth leading 22-16, Columbia scored two straight points on attack errors, but Dartmouth responded with three points in a row to close the set and take a 1-0 lead.
The Lions took a 7-3 lead in the second set, but Dartmouth once again quickly battled back to take a 14-0 lead. Avery Jones smashed a kill to spark a 4-0 Columbia run to tie things up, but the Big Green did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way after getting a kill on the next play.
Set three was fully controlled by Dartmouth, and the Big Green would complete the sweep.
Hailee Watts led the Lions with eight kills and eight digs in the match. Jones collected seven kills. Ruby van der Heide notched a double-double with 29 assists and 14 digs.
Columbia road trip continues next weekend first with a match against Brown in Rhode Island on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
