Field Hockey Shuts Out Hofstra on Sunday, 3-0

Lions snap four-game losing streak; earn third shutout of the year

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Columbia field hockey blanked Hofstra on the road, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Cindy Lewis Stadium.

The Lions (3-6, 1-2) received goals from Sam Petrucco, Lizzie Adams, and Sophia Abate. Goalkeeper Katie Wimmer made five saves in the cage to earn her fifth career shutout.

Petrucco opened the scoring at 7:20 of the first quarter with her first goal of the year. Mckenzie Bloom and Abate were credited with assists.

Columbia then took a 2-0 lead 51 seconds into the second frame on Adams' first career goal. Adams deflected in a shot off Emma Reilly's stick.

With 3:37 to play in the third, Abate found the back of the cage off a Hofstra turnover that Jacinta Solari Etcheberry stole. Etcheberry played it ahead to Abate who finished to cap Columbia's scoring on the day.

The Lions outshot Hofstra, 14-9 (8-5 on goal) and recorded 10 shots in the first half. Columbia returns home on Friday for its Broach Foundation Match against Harvard at 3 p.m.
