CSA MATCH OF THE WEEK
Columbia's men's match against Virginia Saturday has been designated as the CSA Match of the Week as announced by CSA Commissioner Harry Smith on Thursday. The designation highlights the exciting competition and enthusiasm surrounding this matchup within the college squash community.
Each week, the CSA selects a standout match that showcases the competition, spirit, skill, and sportsmanship of college squash. The goal is to highlight programs, to bring attention to these incredible contests, and promote the sport to a wider audience.
RECAPPING LAST SEASON
The Columbia men's team finished last season with an 8-8 overall record, including three victories at the CSA National Team Championships before losing a close contest to No. 4 Harvard. Columbia bested Virginia twice last season, securing a dominant 7-2 win in the season opener and edging out a narrow 5-4 victory at the National Team Championships.
The Columbia women's team posted a 5-10 overall record last season that included one win at the CSA National Team Championships. The women also played Virginia in the season opener last year, but were defeated, 6-3.
NEW FACES
Columbia squash welcomed four newcomers to the men's team and three newcomers to the women's team ahead of the 2024-25 season. Imad Athar, Arhan Chandra, Varun Fuloria and Yusuf Sheikh join the men's team. Andreea Ghiorghisor, Sophia Hu and Eva Salzman join the women's team.
"Our coaching staff is very excited about the seven new Lions starting with us this fall," Sachvie said. "Our recruiting strategy is to find student-athletes who are competitive, committed, and have outstanding character and we believe this group is going to shine through at a high level in these categories. Both the men's and women's groups will add depth throughout our lineups and their energy and enthusiasm to get started was felt immediately on move-in weekend."
