NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Columbia men's swimming and diving team hit the road for the first time on Saturday, traveling to New Haven to take on Yale. The Bulldogs picked up the win, defeating the Lions 209-91.
"Today was a tough day in terms of the final score/outcome, but we swam well," Head Coach
Jim Bolster said. "Yale is another very strong team and we just did not have enough firepower to keep pace with them."
The divers opened the day on a positive note, as
Joseph Nicol picked up a big win on the 3m boards with a score of 367.05. He went on to place second on the 1m boards later in the day with a score of 322.35.
Will Cooley had some solid dives, with his top finish being 4th in the 1m with a score of 286.80.
"This is the best diving we've seen from Joe Nicol this year and
Will Cooley is getting better every meet," Head Diving Coach
Scott Donie said. "The future is bright!"
Gian Santos picked up Columbia's first swimming win on the day, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:38.29.
Adam Wu followed that up with an impressive win in the 200-fly, touching the wall at 1:48.12.
Zion James and
Samuel Eckert went 2-3 in the 50 free, with James clocking in at 20.10.
In the last event of the day, the Lions' A 400 free relay squad took second place. The team of Wu, Eckert,
Kevin Obochi, and James finished with a time of 3:00.80.

Columbia is back in action on Friday, November 22 against Harvard in Cambridge. The meet is set for 4 p.m.
