Columbia Faces Off with No. 13 Duke on Sunday

Lions make first trip to Cameron Indoor Stadium
DURHAM, N.C. – The Columbia women's basketball team (6-2) travels to face No. 13 Duke (7-1) on Sunday. The game's opening tip from Cameron Indoor Stadium is scheduled for noon Eastern.

OPENING TIPS
• This will be Columbia's 14th game all-time against an AP Top 25 opponent, the last six of which have come since Megan Griffith took over as head coach (2016-17). Columbia earned its first AP Top 25 win last season when it took down then-No. 25 Princeton, 67-65, in New York City.
• Columbia went 2-1 last weekend in the Bahamas, playing three games in three days at the Battle 4 Atlantis. The Lions led with under four minutes remaining but fell to Indiana, 72-62, to open the tournament. They bounced back by overpowering Southern Miss on Sunday, 85-66, and won the consolation final over Ball State, 69-62. The Cardinals came into the game ranked No. 1 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25.
• Columbia owns 14 power-conference wins (ACC, BIG EAST, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC) since Megan Griffith took over as head coach. Its first such win came in Griffith's first season, taking down Providence in overtime in New York. The Lions earned their first ACC win when they defeated Boston College, 68-60, in the fall of 2017.
• Columbia has won 13 consecutive games in the month of December. The Lions went 5-0 last December and 7-0 in December of 2022. Their last December loss came at home against UMass, 87-75, on Dec. 11, 2021.
• Riley Weiss (16.6), Kitty Henderson (14.6) and Cecelia Collins (13.9) rank fourth, seventh and eighth in the Ivy League in scoring. Henderson is the league leader in assists (5.3), ranking 1-2 with Collins (4.9). Henderson (42) and Collins (39) each rank Top 25 in the nation in total assists.
• Kitty Henderson (1,054) is nine points from passing Megan Griffith (1,062) for 10th on Columbia's all-time scoring list. Earlier this season, Henderson (386) passed Griffith (373) in career assists.
KITTY'S CAREER DAY IN THE BAHAMAS
• Senior point guard Kitty Henderson scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Lions in a 69-62 victory over Ball State in the consolation bracket final at the Battle 4 Atlantis. She was 9-of-16 from the floor, adding six rebounds, four assists and four steals. She recorded season-highs in points (24), field goals made and attempted (9-16), free throws made and attempted (6-10) and steals (4).
• Cecelia Collins earned conference player-of-the-week honors for the first time in her career. Collins, who played her freshman and sophomore seasons in the Patriot League at Bucknell, averaged 15.7 points, 6.3 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals for games played Nov. 18-24. She also shot 56.3 percent from the field, 40 percent from three (4-10) and was a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe. The highlight game of her week came against Pacific, scoring 18 points with a season-high eight assists and a career-high five steals.
KITTY JOINS 1K CLUB
• Kitty Henderson became the 15th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 career points as part of Columbia's 84-50 victory over Pacific (Nov. 20).
• Henderson scored her 1,000th point on a three-point play with 4.1 seconds remaining in the third quarter. She then made the free throw for her 1,0001st point.
• Cecelia Collins is the only other active player on the roster with 1,000 career points, scoring 688 of them between her freshman and sophomore years at Bucknell, followed by 410 in her first year at Columbia.
SETTING THE STANDARD
• Columbia has evolved into an Ivy League powerhouse, coming off back-to-back regular-season championships, its first two Ivy League championships in program history.
• The Lions earned their first NCAA Tournament appearance last season, receiving a 12 seed as an at-large bid, just the second at-large selection in women's basketball in Ivy League history (2016). They played in the First Four against Vanderbilt, falling in a close contest, 72-68.
• Columbia is coming off three straight 20-win seasons, posting overall records of 25-7 (2021-22), 28-6 (2022-23) and 23-7 (2023-24). The 2021-22 team earned the program's first bid to a postseason tournament in its Division I history. The following year, the Lions advanced all the way to the WNIT Championship Game against Kansas. Last season, they earned their first selection to the Big Dance. Prior to 2021, the Lions had never had a 20-win season in their Division I history (1986-pres.).

The Blue Devils are coming off two impressive victories at the Bull Dawgs Classic in Henderson, Nevada, taking down No. 9 Kansas State, 73-62, and No. 9 Oklahoma, 109-99, in overtime. Senior Reigan Richardson scored a career-high 35 points in the win over the Sooners, including 10 of her team's 15 in the overtime period.
• Ashlon Jackson (16.0), Richardson (14.5) and Toby Fournier (12.1) are the three Blue Devils averaging double figures scoring. Jackson's 22 made threes on the season rank top 25 in the NCAA. As a team, Duke ranks among the top 25 in the nation in scoring (84.0), assists (18.3), three-point percentage (.394) and bench points per game (34.8).
• This will be the second all-time meeting between Duke and Columbia. Last season, the Blue Devils traveled up to New York and escaped Levien Gymnasium with a narrow, 66-62, victory. Returners Taina Mair (18) and Richardson (10) led Duke in scoring. Kitty Henderson had 15 for the Lions.
