Track & Field Completes First Day of Ivy League Indoor Heps

Syed, Ton-That win silver medals in 3000m run
NEW YORK — The Columbia indoor track and field team has wrapped up day one of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted this year by Harvard University.
The highlight of the first day of competition came in the men's and women's 3000m. The Lions secured two silver medals, with Talha Syed securing second place for the men with a time of 8:03.50 and Elia Ton-That taking second place for the women with a time of 9:22.03. Phoebe Anderson finished just a second behind Ton-That to claim the bronze medal with a time of 9:23.38.
Obiora Okeke had a big day, taking fifth place in the men's weight throw. In the process, he set a new Columbia record in the event with a mark of 20.04m.
Nikki Vanasse and Rory Clare placed third in the prelims of the mile and 1000m run, respectively.
As a team, the women currently reside in fourth place with 14 points and the men sit in fifth place with 13 points. Princeton is in first for the women after day one, and Penn paces the men's standings.

Ivy League Heps resumes tomorrow with the second and final day of competition. The first event will be the men's 60m hurdles at 11:30 a.m.
After the conclusion of Indoor Heps, the Lions will look ahead to the ECAC/IC4A Championships which will be held from March 2-3, beginning at 9:30 a.m. both days. NCAA Indoor Championships are set for Friday, March 8. Both events will take place in Boston, Mass.
