Neal helped lead the Lions to three wins last week
PRINCETON, N.J. – Columbia infielder Cami Neal was named the Ivy League Player of the Week in this week's Ivy League softball awards announced Monday.
Neal had several impressive numbers to help lead Columbia to the series win over Cornell and a 4-2 start to the Ivy League schedule. Neal led the team with a .583 batting average and a 1.167 slugging percentage. She currently ranks second in the league in conference batting average at .526. In addition to her performance at the plate, Neal finished the weekend with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
"I am super happy that Cami was able to lead us on the field this weekend for a very tough series win," Columbia Softball Head Coach Jennifer Teague said. "She has continued to hit the ball and play hard, and at times it was frustrating early in the season because hits were not falling, but she trusted her process and did not change anything and just continued to work. I am very happy that she is reaping the reward for her hard work."
Neal highlighted the series opening win against Cornell on Saturday with two home runs and three RBI. She also registered three hits and an RBI in the series finale against the Big Red. Neal finished last week with seven hits, a double, two home runs, four RBI, three runs and 14 total bases.
The Lions are back on the field Wednesday for a midweek showdown on the road at Fairfield. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
