Columbia takes on seven-team field at Watchung Valley Golf Club
NEW YORK — Columbia will vie for the 2024 Ivy League Men's Golf Championship this Friday-Sunday. The championship will be held at Watchung Valley Golf Club in Watchung, New Jersey. The league's seven men's golf programs will begin the first round on Friday at 10 a.m. ET.
Columbia's lineup for the championship will consist of senior Nathan Han, senior DJ Francey, junior Wyatt McGovern, sophomore Darren Pang and sophomore George Rubelsky. Senior Alvin Kwak will be Columbia's alternate.
Last year, the Lions took second at the championship. They sat in third after each of the first two rounds and posted a final-round 7-over-par 295 at the difficult 7,327-yard Stanwich Club to climb into second. Pat Healy tied for sixth to earn Second Team All-Ivy League honors. Han, Francey, Pang and McGovern all also competed in last year's championship. Han led the group with a final-round 2-under 70 to tie for 13th at 11-over for the tournament.
Columbia enters this year's championship coming off a victory at last Saturday's Roar-EE Invitational. The Lions shot 20-under par as a team over 36 holes for their third tournament title of the 2023-24 season. Leading the way was Francey, who was co-medalist with a tournament total of 7-under par 137. It marked Francey's second individual win of the season. Meanwhile, McGovern was solo third at 5-under par. Kwak, Rubelsky and Pang all finished top 25 in the 75-man field.
The top five individual finishes and ties from the Ivy League Championship will be named First Team All-Ivy League. The next five individual finishers and ties will be named Second Team All-Ivy League.
The winning team will earn an automatic bid to represent the Ivy League at the 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Regionals, which will be held May 13-15. The 2024 NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1 at 2 p.m. ET and will air live on the Golf Channel.
Pairings and first-round tee times will be released by the Ivy League following the introductory banquet Thursday evening. Fans can find pairings and follow live scoring throughout the weekend on Golfstat.
