NEW YORK - The Columbia lacrosse team was defeated by #18 Princeton on Saturday afternoon, 24-12, at Robert K. Kraft Field. The Lions' offense had a solid game, but Columbia just could not slow down the Tigers' attack as the Lions allowed a season-high in goals. 

Similar to last week against Brown, Princeton took control of the game right away in the opening quarter. The Tigers would score the first five goals of the contest, before Cececlia Messner found the back of the net to halt Princeton's run midway through the first quarter. It wouldn't slow down the Tigers, as they went on to take a 10-2 lead into the second quarter. 

Messner had four goals before halftime, while Dani Falcone added two goals of her own, but still the Lions struggled to keep pace with Princeton as the Tigers led 14-7 at halftime. 

Columbia kept pace with Princeton across the second and third quarters as both teams scored nine goals each, but the Tigers began to pull away in the fourth quarter. Princeton scored five of the last six goals, closing the books on a 24-12 victory. 

Messner matched her career-high with five goals for the second straight game. Falcone and Becker. boh added a hat trick, while Kate Cunning added a goal from the free-position arc. Cordelia Flemming snagged a career-high seven draw controls, while Cunning chipped in two caused turnovers. 

Columbia will have a week off before hitting the road to take on Dartmouth in an Ivy League game on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. in New Hampshire.
