Choi Wins Gold, Ahn Silver at Gator Cup

First-year duo competes in all-Columbia final
NEWBERRY, Fla. — Columbia first-years Eunice Choi and Michelle Ahn posted a 1-2 finish at the 2024 Easton Foundations Gator Cup. The event took place over the weekend at the Easton Newberry Archery Center.
Competing in the Recurve U21 Women's Division, Choi shot a 603 in her qualifying round to earn the No. 1 seed out of 22 archers. Ahn scored a 591 to earn the No. 3 seed. Both Choi and Ahn had byes in the 1/16th Round and edged past their respective opponents in the fifth and final end of the 1/8th Round to reach the quarterfinals. Choi breezed her way to the final, while Ahn posted a 6-5 win in five ends in her semifinal, setting up an all-Columbia matchup for the gold.
The first-year standouts split the first two ends to enter the third tied, 2-2. Choi took a 26-25 win in End 3 to take a 4-2 lead before the duo split the fourth end, 26-26, giving Choi a 5-3 advantage heading to the fifth. Choi proved her prowess in the fifth, 26-21, to earn the gold.
A native of Chantilly, Virginia, Choi has now medaled in all six events on Columbia's schedule during the 2024 season. Those medals include gold in the Collegiate Recurve Female Division at The Vegas Shoot, regional gold and a national bronze at USA Archery Indoor Nationals, silver at the Arizona Cup, gold at USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals and a gold over the weekend at the Gator Cup.
Judith Gottlieb also competed over the weekend in the Recurve Senior Women's Division. She qualified 19th out of 42 archers in her qualification round. Gottlieb's first elimination match came in the 1/16th Round, where she fell, 6-2.
Columbia's season culminates at the USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals, hosted by Georgia Southern this Thursday-Sunday, May 16-19, at the Shooting Sports Education Center in Statesboro, Georgia.
