Four-day national event begins Thursday
NEW YORK — The Columbia University archery team will compete at the 2024 USA Archery Collegiate Target Nationals this Thursday-Sunday, May 16-19 at Georgia Southern University's Shooting Sports Education Center. The event will host hundreds of the nation's top collegiate student-athletes.
After practice rounds and opening ceremonies on Thursday, the competition officially begins on Friday at 8 a.m. ET with the Women's Qualification Round. The Individual Elimination Round takes place on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. Later that afternoon will be the Official Team Round. The event wraps up on Sunday beginning with the Gold Medal Finals at 8 a.m., followed by the Mixed Team Round at 11:30 before the Awards Ceremony at 3 p.m.
Five archers will represent Columbia, four in recurve and one in compound. Sophomore Giselle DeSousa will shoot in the compound competition, while junior Judith Gottlieb, sophomore Lillian Han and first-years Michelle Ahn and Eunice Choi will shoot recurve. Han, Ahn and Choi were just named to the USA Archery All-American Academic Team on Tuesday.
Last season, Han and Gottlieb both advanced to the national semifinals and earned All-American honors in the recurve. Gottlieb went on to take the silver. USA Archery determines its All-Americans by combining each archer's qualifying round scores from Indoor Nationals and Collegiate Target Nationals. There are 10 All-Americans named in both the Collegiate Compound Women and Collegiate Recurve Women.
Electronic live scoring for this year's event will be available on BetweenEnds.com.
