Track & Field Completes First Day of Ivy League Outdoor Heps

Syed wins silver, Anderson wins bronze in 10,000m run
PRINCETON, N.J. — The Columbia outdoor track and field team has completed the first day of the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted this year by Harvard University.
The highlight of the first day of competition came in the men's and women's 10,000m. The Lions secured a silver and bronze medal, with Talha Syed taking second place for the men with a time of 29:11.47 and Phoebe Anderson placing third for the women with a time of 32:54.50.
Obiora Okeke had a big day, taking sixth place in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 60.34m. He also secured ninth place in the discus throw with a mark of 47.33m.
Joshua Adams finished on the podium in the long jump, taking fourth place with a mark of 7.55m.
Nikki Vanasse placed second in the 1,500m prelims with a time of 4:24.18. Camylin Blake finished third in the 100m hurdle prelims with a time of 13.71. Both will look to earn a medal tomorrow.
As a team, the women currently reside in fifth place with seven points and the men sit in a tie for sixth place with 13 points. Princeton currently resides in first place of both the men's and women's standings.

NCAA Outdoor Championships are set to begin June 6 in Eugene, Ore. Prelims will begin on May 22 in Lexington, Ky.
