ITHACA, N.Y. — The Columbia men's swimming and diving team was back on the road Saturday, and took on the Cornell Big Red in an Ivy meet. The Lions had some great swims, but ultimately the Big Red came away with a 178-121 win.
"Cornell swam very well today," Head Coach
Jim Bolster said. "The last time they beat us was in 2017 so on their senior day they were pretty fired up to end the streak. I thought we raced well, but we just were not at our best."
Zach Vasser got things started with a bang, winning the first individual swimming event of the day. He touched the wall first in the 1000 free, clocking in at 9:07.99.
Demirkan Demir won the 100 breast with a time of 53.20.
Zion James had another excellent performance in the 50 free, placing first with a time of 44.47.
Joshua Corn also had a solid day, winning the 200 breast with a time of 1:57.28.
Joseph Nicol has an excellent day to lead the divers. First, he won the 3m boards with a score of 355.35. Then, he would go on to win the 1m boards as well with a score of 318.90.
"Really exciting diving today," Head Diving Coach
Scott Donie said. "Everybody at or near their highest scores of the year. Couldn't be prouder."
