Obiora Okeke Sets Another Shot Put Record
NEW YORK — The Columbia track & field team competed in both the Mets Indoor Championships in Staten Island and the Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open at The Armory this morning. The Lions had a plethora of top finishers at both competitions.
At the Mets Indoor Championship, the Lions had a great morning in multiple events.
Obiora Okeke continued his successful season with a first and second place finish today. He won shot put with a mark of 19.25m, beating his program record mark from last week, and took second in weight throw with a mark of 19.78m. Simon Skoumal also competed in weight throw and finished third with a mark of 17.75.
In the pole vault, Liam Wright had the third best vault in Columbia history at 4.94m
For the women's team, Jada Mia Puryear was the top finisher. She placed third in shot put with a mark of 19.25m.
At the Scarlet Knight Open, the women's team had two third place finishers. Camylin Blake took third in the women's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.73.. In addition, Fionna McKenna placed third in both of her events; in the high jump she finished with a mark of 1.49m while in shot put she finished with a mark of 9.30m.
The Lions two fourth place finishers were Josiah Williams and Caroline Jankowich. Williams competed in the 400m and finished with a time of 49.39. Jankowich raced in the 1000m. She finished with a time of 2:57.

On February 6th, the Lions are back in action, sending student-athletes to compete in the 117th Millrose Games at The Armory that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
