Registered double-double, hit game-winning shot at Seton Hall
NEW YORK – Columbia women's basketball senior Perri Page has been named Division I Women's Player of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA). The association's weekly awards were announced on Tuesday.
The designation, for games played Dec. 8-14, is unique in that it encompasses players from 21 New York City Metro-area Division I schools. Those schools are: Army West Point, Columbia, Fairfield, FDU, Fordham, Hofstra, Iona, LIU, Manhattan, Marist, Monmouth, NJIT, Princeton, Rider, Rutgers, Sacred Heart, St. John's, Saint Peter's, Seton Hall, Stony Brook and Wagner.
This is Page's first career MBWA player of the week honor.
A 5-11 senior guard from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Page led the Lions in their only game of the week to a last-second 54-53 victory at Seton Hall. She recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, along with four steals and two assists. She connected on 7-of-14 shots from the field in the contest.
After Columbia trailed by as many as 11, Page tallied nine first-quarter points to help the Lions end the period on a 10-0 run and get back within a point. Then, late in the game, she canned the game-winning basket with just 0.7 seconds left to lift the Lions to a 54-53 victory.
Page ranks No. 6 in the Ivy League in scoring (13.5), No. 7 in rebounding (6.7), No. 1 in field goal percentage (.545) and No. 2 in steals (2.5). She is one of three players in NCAA Division I averaging at least 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and shooting 50 percent or better from the field. The other two are All-Americans Sarah Strong (UConn) and Madison Booker (Texas).
Columbia (7-4) returns to action this Saturday at home against reigning American Athletic Conference regular-season champion UTSA (5-5). Opening tip from Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
