
Women's Swimming and Diving in Third Place after First Day of Big Al Invite

Zion James and Derek Hitchens both win individual events
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia women's swimming and diving team traveled to New Jersey for the weekend to take part in the Big Al Invitational hosted by Princeton. After the first day of competition, the Lions sit in third place with 209.50 points. Penn sits in first place, scoring 544 points.

DAY ONE
The 200 free relay team got things started with a fourth place finish. Sally Ma, Isabel Lee, Ella Chan, and Audrey Wolk clocked in at 1:18.71.
In the first individual event of the day, Reese Heidenreich took fifth in the 50 breast with a time of 30.90.
Mia Avansino (500 free), Emily Wang (50 back), Ashley Hong (200 IM), and Ma (50 free) each finished in the top-8 in their respective events.

DIVING
Meanwhile, on day one the women's divers competed in the 3m finals and Lily Sherman led the way placing 11th with a score of 239.60.
"Our divers really battled well in a very strong field," Head Diving Coach Scott Donie said. "It's always great when everybody moves up in the consolation final. Our top scorer today was first year Lily Sherman. Very strong showing in her first collegiate invitational.
ON DECK
Following this weekend, the Lions will take a break for the holidays before returning to action on January 17 against Brown in Rhode Island. This meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
