
Women's Swimming and Diving Finishes Third at Big Al Invite

The Lions drop their head-to-head matchup against Princeton
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia women's swimming and diving team traveled to New Jersey this weekend to take part in the Big Al Invitational hosted by Princeton. After three full days of competition, the Lions finished in third place with 737.50 points. Penn won the event, scoring 1,587 points.
In addition, Columbia lost its head-to-head matchup with Princeton, 1260.50-737.50.

DAY ONE
The 200 free relay team got things started with a fourth place finish. Sally Ma, Isabel Lee, Ella Chan, and Audrey Wolk clocked in at 1:18.71.
In the first individual event of the day, Reese Heidenreich took fifth in the 50 breast with a time of 30.90.
Mia Avansino (500 free), Emily Wang (50 back), Ashley Hong (200 IM), and Ma (50 free) each finished in the top-8 in their respective events.

DAY TWO
Wang, Hong, Chan, and Ma began the day with a fourth place finish in the 200 medley relay, clocking in at 1:42.49.
Shaelyn Shields placed seventh in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.89.
Hong had the Lions' top finish of the day, taking third place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:03.33.

DAY THREE
Chan got the Lions off to a solid start on the final day of competition, finishing seventh in the 50 fly with a time of 24.92.
Jilly MacNamara had Columbia's top finish of the meet in the 200 back, taking second with a time of 1:57.14. Shields came in fourth at 1:59.46.
Hong and Natalia Diaz went 3-4 in the 200 breast, led by Hong's 2:15.14.
The Lions finished the weekend with a sixth place finish in the 400 free relay, touching the wall at 3:27.15.

DIVING
Meanwhile, on day one the women's divers competed in the 3m finals and Lily Sherman led the way placing 11th with a score of 239.60.
Lera Bondarenko had the top finish on the 1m boards, taking 10th with a score of 234.75.
ON DECK
Following this weekend, the Lions will take a break for the holidays before returning to action on January 17 against Brown in Rhode Island. This meet is scheduled to begin at noon.
