Two women and three men are recognized by the Ivy League
PRINCETON, N.J. – Five Columbia squash student-athletes were named to the 2024-25 All-Ivy League team. Simmi Chan and Nourin Khalifa were recognized from the women's team, while Shaurya Bawa, Arhan Chandra and Zach Nam were honored on the men's side.
"It's a well-deserved honor for our top two players on each team," Kenneth W. Torrey Head Coach of Squash Chris Sachvie said. "They have played well in Ivy League play and will look to help us close out the season strong."
Chan earned First Team All-Ivy League honors for the third straight season as she continues to rank at the top of the conference. Chan has posted an 8-4 record so far this season that included a run to the semifinals at the CSA Individual Championships in January. Chan went 4-1 in matches against Ivy League opponents as she secured victories in matches against Harvard, Dartmouth, Princeton and Yale.
Khalifa was also honored on the women's side with a spot on the Second Team All-Ivy League list. Khalifa has played the No. 2 position for the Lions in most of the Ivy League matches this season. She moved up to the No. 1 spot in Columbia's match against Cornell last weekend.
Bawa and Chandra secured Second Team All-Ivy League recognition on the men's side. Bawa and Chandra both competed in the Pool Trophy bracket at the CSA Individual Championships in January. The two led the Columbia lineup through the Ivy League schedule this season with Chandra playing the No. 1 spot for all six Ivy competitions. Bawa was a mainstay in the No. 2 spot as he played there in five of six conference matches. Chandra went 1-5 in the top spot during Ivy play with a win over Dartmouth's Christian Shah. Bawa went 3-2 in the No. 2 position as he earned victories in Columbia's matches against Harvard, Yale and Cornell.
Additionally, Chan and Nam were named to the Academic All-Ivy list. Recognition on the Academic All-Ivy list is reserved for third or fourth-year student-athletes in good academic standing that excel in the classroom and in competition. This is the second straight year Nam has earned a spot on the list.
Columbia has two contests remaining before the regular season comes to an end. The Lions will play at Drexel on February 22 before returning to New York for the home finale on February 23. The men will play Western Ontario in the final home contest, while the women will face Georgetown.
