Earns national player of the week status for the second time this season
NEW YORK – Columbia women's basketball sophomore Riley Weiss picked up several player-of-the-week honors on Tuesday, highlighted by national honors from both the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and Associated Press (AP).
The USBWA named Weiss one of its five Ann Meyers Drysdale National Player of the Week honorees. The AP tabbed Weiss as one of three Honorable Mentions in its Player of the Week announcement. Both of the national distinctions mark Weiss' second of the year. Meanwhile, the Met Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) named Weiss its Women's Division I Player of the Week for a third time this season.

All this comes on the heels of a career-high 34 points that Weiss scored to lead the Lions past Princeton on the road, 64-60, on Saturday. The win gave Columbia (19-5, 10-1 Ivy) sole possession of first place in the Ivy League standings. It also earned the Lions their first regular-season sweep over Princeton since 2008 and ended Princeton's 30-game home winning streak, which was the longest active streak in the country.
Weiss scored 16 in the fourth quarter to rally the Lions to victory. Entering the final period trailing by six, Columbia went on a 13-0 run to take a 51-44 lead. Weiss netted the final 10 points of that run, starting with a three to tie it and later going coast-to-coast for an emphatic and-one to completely shift the momentum.
Weiss ended the night 11-for-21 from the field, 5-of-11 from deep and a perfect 7-for-7 at the foul line, adding three rebounds, a pair of assists and a pair of steals. All seven of those free throw attempts came in the fourth quarter, where the Lions went 11-for-11 as a team.
Columbia plays each of its final three regular-season games at home, beginning with an Ivy League back-to-back at Levien Gymnasium this Friday and Saturday against Brown (10-14, 4-7 Ivy) and Yale (3-21, 2-9 Ivy). Friday's tip against Brown is scheduled for 3 p.m.
