NEW YORK - Columbia rowing's women's varsity eight came up victorious for the second straight week after topping Northeastern to retain the Woodbury Cup. The heavyweights hosted the Childs Cup regatta against Penn and Princeton, while the lightweights took on Penn and Yale as a guest in the Knecht Cup Regatta.

The women battled through less than ideal conditions on the Charles River to win four of five races on the day against the Huskies and Boston University. 

The varsity eight race was a tight contest with all three crews even through the first 500 meters. Northeastern led by two seats at the 750-meter mark before the Lions surged at the halfway point to take the lead. Columbia extended the margin to four seats in the final quarter of the race and maintained that cushion to earn its third consecutive win over the Huskies. It also topped BU for a first-place finish.

The women's second varsity eight won another close race, topping Northeastern by one second with the Terriers pulling in third. The third varsity eight and varsity four picked up dominant victories in their competitions. The Lions also competed in a combined second and third varsity four with the 3V4 placing third and the 2V4 finishing third in a five-boat race.

Columbia welcomed Princeton and Penn at Overpeck Park. The Tigers emerged victorious for the 13th consecutive year with a win in the varsity eight. Both the varsity eight and second varsity eight placed third. Complete results can be found here.

On the Cooper River, the lightweights raced against the Quakers and Bulldog, where the Lions placed third in both the varsity and second varsity eight. Complete results can be found here.

Up Next
The heavyweights will battle for the Blackwell Cup against Yale and Penn on April 19 in Philadelphia. The lightweights stay on the road for the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Race in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on April 18-19. The women are off next weekend, but will compete in the Wheler Invite in Durham, North Carolina, from April 25-26.
