Lions look to defend last year’s tournament victory
NEW YORK — The Columbia men's golf team will host another edition of the Roar-EE Invitational on Saturday at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston, New York. This is the third straight year the Lions will host this single-day, 36-hole event.
The field is scheduled to tee off in a shotgun format at 8 a.m. Fans looking to keep up with the action can follow along on the College Golf Scoreboard, powered by Clippd.
Ten teams and approximately 70 individual competitors are in this year's field. The teams include the defending champion Lions, Binghamton, Lafayette, Saint Francis, Penn, Lehigh, Cornell, Dartmouth, St. Thomas Aquinas and Creighton.
Saturday's shotgun start is scheduled for 8 a.m. Wiltwyck Golf Club will play as a par 72 at 6,877 yards.
Columbia won last year's tournament by six shots over Yale, posting a winning total of 20-under-par 556. DJ Francey was co-medalist at 7-under 137 (71-66).
This will be Columbia's 10th tournament of the 2024-25 season. The Lions have earned six top-five finishes over their first nine events. Last weekend, they were fifth out of 14 teams at the Princeton Invitational. First-year Grant Lester tied for runner-up at 2-under-par 140 (72-68). He has finished top 10 in six of his nine events, including three top-fives and two runners-up. He leads the team with a 72.13 stroke average over 24 competition rounds.
Seniors Wyatt McGovern and William Sung, juniors George Rubelsky and Darren Pang, sophomore Hunter Po and first-year Ryan Keyes are all expected to compete. Columbia's lineup will be finalized Friday evening.
Saturday's tournament will serve as the final tune-up for the Lions before next weekend's Ivy League Championship (April 25-27) at Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pennsylvania.
