Senior second baseman earns the honor for second consecutive week
PRINCETON, N.J. – For the second straight week Columbia softball senior second baseman Cami Neal has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.
Neal was instrumental in the Lions three game sweep over conference rival Cornell, hitting .875 (7-for-8) with five runs scored and four driven in. After earning Ivy League Player of the Week honors on April 21, she raised her batting average from .380 to .420 with this week's stellar performance.
Of her seven hits, she hit two extra base hits, including her fifth home run of the season -19th of her career, moving her into sole possession of fourth all-time in Columbia history.
"I'm super happy for Cami as she continues to lead on and off the field," head coach Jenniffer Teague said. "It's nice to see the rewards for all her hard work this season. She has been instrumental in our success down the stretch this year."
For the year, Neal is hitting .420 which is second overall in the Ivy League. She also ranks in the top 10 in the Ivy Leagues in slugging percentage, doubles, total bases, hits, and on base percentage.
Columbia wraps up the regular season this weekend when Dartmouth comes to the Columbia Softball Field for a three-game series. The series begins with a doubleheader Saturday with game one scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Sunday will be the Lions' annual Senior Day.
