NEW YORK — Columbia baseball, softball, lightweight rowing, women's rowing, men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis and lacrosse are featured in this week's edition of Lions on the Road. Every week, GoColumbiaLions.com will be using "Lions on the Road" to preview that week's upcoming games and events happening off campus.
Baseball
The Lions (12-14, 7-2) begin a four-game road trip at Fordham on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before a weekend series at Yale on Saturday and Sunday. Columbia is 58-72-2 all-time against Fordham but has won three straight games in the series. The Lions are 82-105 all-time against Yale after the Bulldogs took two of three last season in New York City.
Sam Miller leads the Ivy League in hits (37), RBIs (31), and total bases (66) and is tied for the league lead in runs (29) and home runs (8). Teammate Anton Lazits has also belted eight home runs on the year and ranks in the top five among conference hitters in RBIs, total bases, and runs. Columbia has either won or swept each Ivy League series so far and sits tied for first place in the conference standings with Penn.

Columbia's lineup this weekend will consist of first-years Christine Chang, Sarah Shao and Emily Luo, along with juniors Tai and Emma Shen. Sophomore Lauren Lee will compete as an individual. The Lions will compete against a 10-team field, which includes Dartmouth, Penn, La Salle, Lafayette, Boston, Mount St. Mary's, Holy Cross, Saint Joseph's and host Navy.

The 14-team field for the two-day, 54-hole event at Springdale Golf Club includes all seven Ivy League programs. Teams from Rutgers, Saint Joseph's, Howard, Seton Hall, Temple, Georgetown and Rider will also be competing. First-year Grant Lester expects to head this weekend's lineup for the Lions. He leads the team with a 72.32 stroke average on the season, including two top fives, two top 10s and seven top 25s in eight events.

The Lions (12-13) wrap up a seven-game road trip on Wednesday when they take on Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J. Columbia is coming off a series win over Yale thanks to a Saturday sweep. It is the first series win over the Bulldogs since 2019. Sophomore infielder Payton Shimansky was named the Ivy League Player of the Week for her performance against Yale. In the series she hit over .500 clubbing two doubles and a triple. The Lions also got two strong pitching performances in the Saturday sweep. In game one, Emmy Davis notched her team leading, fifth win of the year. Jordan Hill went the distance in an impressive performance to win game two. As a team, the Lions are hitting .308 (194-for-630). In the circle, they boast a staff ERA of 6.09 with five complete games. Wednesday will be the 26th meeting between the two teams, with the Lions owning a 13-11-1 record in the series. Last time out, Columbia defeated the Hawks 4-3 at home on March 27, 2024.

The Columbia lightweight rowing team hosted Mercyhurst and Georgetown for races last Saturday, followed by afternoon races against Georgetown and Harvard. In the morning session, the Varsity 8, 2V8 and 3V4 all finished in front of Mercyhurst but were second to the Hoyas. In the afternoon, the Second Varsity 8 defeated Georgetown but came up short against Harvard. The Varsity 8 and 3V8 were both third to the Crimson and Hoyas. Columbia finished second in last year's Dodge Cup at Overpeck Park, but took the crown in 2023.

Columbia has won the Woodbury Cup over Northeastern the last two years and looks to make it three in a row on Saturday in Boston. Columbia's V8 won a tight race against the opposing boat from No. 16 Indiana last weekend. The Lions crossed the 1,000-meter mark ahead by four-tenths of a second and went on to earn a three-second victory. Columbia also defeated the Hoosiers by two seconds in the 2V8, eight seconds in the Varsity 4 and seven seconds in the 2V4. The Columbia women then faced the Varsity 8 from No. 15 Ohio State on Saturday, trailing by less than a second halfway through before the Buckeyes pulled away from a four-second victory. The rest of Saturday's races were canceled due to inclement weather.

The women's golf team heads back to the Navy Spring Invitational, which takes place Saturday and Sunday at the Naval Academy Golf Course in Annapolis, Maryland. At last season's event, the Lions put four in the top 15 on their way to a fourth-place finish. Yoko Tai earned a top 10.

The men's golf team makes its annual trip to the Princeton Invitational. The Lions finished fourth at last season's event behind a top 10 from DJ Francey and top 20s from Nathan Han and Wyatt McGovern. Now a senior, McGovern returns to the event along with juniors George Rubelsky and Darren Pang.

Track & Field
After competing in six meets over the past two weeks, Columbia track & field is back in action this weekend with just one meet on the slate. The Lions will travel to New Jersey to take part in the Oscar Moore Invitational, hosted by Rowan University. The Lions are coming off success at the Florida Relays, METS Outdoor Invitational, and Sam Howell Distance Carnival this past weekend. In New Jersey, Leanna Johnston had yet another first place finish, this time in the 10000m, winning the race with a time of 35:17.90. At Randall's Island, Nicholas Hayden went 1:54.53 in the 800m dash and George Blaha won the 5000m with a time of 14:51.58. Madison Williams had Columbia's top finish in Gainesville, taking eighth in the long jump with a mark of 5.79m. The Lions will hope to carry this momentum into this weekend in Jersey.

Lacrosse
The lacrosse team's season continues this Saturday when they will make the trip across the river to New Jersey to take on #5 Princeton. Most recently, the Lions took on #17 Brown in Rhode Island with the Bears emerging victorious, 19-5. Anna Becker and Dani Falcone led Columbia's attack with two goals each. Maddie Brogan accounted for Columbia's fifth goal. On the defensive end, goalie Simone Koryszewski started and picked up 16 saves. Noelle DeMarinis led the team with five draw controls. The Lions are preparing to take on one of the top teams in the nation, as the Tigers enter the weekend with a 9-1 record having won nine in a row. Princeton's sole loss was in the season opener to #8 Virginia. Undefeated in Ivy play, the Tigers are led by McKenzie Blake with 50 goals on the year.
