NEW YORK — Columbia women's golf will have three representatives competing at the U.S. Amateur Open. Rising sophomores Christine Chang and Sarah Shao, along with Allison Paik '24CC will tee off at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon, from August 4-10.
The trio represents the most qualifiers in the same year for the the U.S. Amateur in Columbia women's golf history. They are also the first Lions to qualify for the event since Nancy Yu '18CC in 2018. Head coach Amy Weeks has seen six Lions qualify for the U.S. Amateur since beginning her tenure in Morningside Heights in 2014.
Stroke play for the entire 156-player field will take place from August 4-5. The top 64 will advance to the match-play portion on August 6. The tournament comes to a close with the 36-hole championship match, scheduled for Sunday, August 10.
Each earned their spots in the event with top-five finishes at qualifying events in Florida, Massachusetts and New Jersey.
Chang, a First Team All-Ivy League selection as a first-year, led Columbia with a 74.32 stroke average, the lowest single-season stroke average in Columbia women's golf history. She earned three top-10 and six top-25 finishes across nine events, including a runner-up finish at the 2025 Ivy League Championship. Chang carded a three-round total of 6-under-par 210 (70-71-69) at Ivies to post the lowest 54-hole score in program history.
Shao recently won the 100th New Jersey Women's Amateur Championship in July. In her rookie season at Columbia, Shao boasted a stroke average of 75.45 across 22 competition rounds, which is one of the top-10 single-season stroke averages in program history. She went on to be named an All-Ivy League Honorable Mention.
Paik, a former Second Team All-Ivy League selection in 2022, posted four top-10 and 10 top-25 finishes in her career. Her best season with the Lions was her junior campaign in 2022-23, where she posted a 76.0 scoring average with a pair of top-10 finishes, including 10th at the Ivy League Championship.
