LAST TIME OUT
The Lions hit the road for a short trip to the Bronx on Thursday night for a non-conference game against Fordham at Jack Coffey Field.
The score was tied 1-1 as the clock was winding down and the match looked destined for a draw, but
Gabby Chan had other plans. In the 88th minute,
Maia Tabion shot on goal which was deflected up in the air, and Chan pounced to knock it past Fordham's keeper and over the line to secure a 2-1 win for the Lions.
Maia Tabion also tallied her first goal of 2025, slipping a shot inside the left post in the 41st minute with an assist from
Justina Bitzer.
Samantha Mahoney's goalkpeeping was on full display in this one, making a career-high five saves and keeping the Rams off the scoreboard for the entire first half. After allowing a tough goal in the opening minutes of the second half, Mahoney and the rest of Columbia's back line held firm and held the Rams scoreless.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
Monmouth enters the weekend with a 5-2-0 record and is riding a four-game winning streak. The Hawks most recently earned a 2-0 shutout of St. John's, with Summer Reimet scoring both goals in the victory. Columbia also beat St. John's, 1-0, late last week.
In 2024, Monmouth posted a 12-3-5 record and went 7-1-2 in conference play, sharing the CAA regular-season title and advancing to the championship game (losing to #2 Stony Brook). Head coach Kylee Flynn, now in her fourth season, has guided the Hawks to continued success and built the program into a contender in the league.
The Hawks return key offensive weapons in Reimet and Loren Gehret, who combined for double-digit goals last fall, along with midfield contributors Clara Ford and Ashley Lavrich. Defensively, Tallulah Miller has provided stability in goal, while the back line has been effective in limiting opponents during the team's recent run.
Through seven matches this fall, Monmouth has scored 12 goals while allowing nine, and with both veteran leadership and emerging young talent, the Hawks look to continue their momentum heading into CAA play after one final non-conference test against the Lions.
