Lions finish third behind a second straight strong performance
CANTON, Mass. — First year Bridget Chantharath highlighted a third-place finish for the Columbia women's golf team at the Red Bandanna Invitational. The 15-team tournament was held Monday and Tuesday at Blue Hill Country Club.
Chantharath, competing in her second collegiate event, tied for second with a tournament total of 4-over-par 220. Monday saw her pair a 2-over 74 with a 1-under 71. The sub-par round was the first of her collegiate career, posting five birdies and four bogeys, and closing it out with a birdie at the 390-yard, par-4 fifth. Chantharath was third heading into Tuesday's final round, where she was 3-over after six holes but steadied the ship with just one bogey to go with one birdie over her final 12. She tied with Boston College's Ana Lucia Trevino for second, three shots behind individual champion Sophia Li of Dartmouth.
Sophomore Sarah Shao shot a final-round 74 to earn a second top 10 in as many tournaments. She finished at 8-over-par 224, posting a first-round 73 and second-round 77 on Monday. Shao carded a 1-under 35 on the back nine of her 73.
In total, five Lions finished in the top 20, helping Columbia (+31) take third in the 15-team field. The Lions were in it until the very end, finishing just nine shots behind tournament champion Boston College. First year Kristina Xu (+10), who won in her debut last weekend, earned a tie for 14th. Sophomore Emily Luo (+12) and first year Camille Thai (+12) tied for 17th, while sophomore Christine Chang (+17) tied for 29th.
Columbia will compete against a stacked field next Monday and Tuesday at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. The event is hosted by reigning national champion Northwestern and features 11 teams that finished in the top 50 of last year's collegiate rankings. It will be held at Glen View Club, just outside of Chicago.
