PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia men's soccer junior midfielder
Jack McDaid was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week for games played September 22-28. The league office announced its weekly selections on Monday afternoon.
A native of Havertown, Pennsylvania, McDaid scored two goals this past week, one in each of Columbia's matches. His first came on Tuesday at Hofstra, when he blasted home a
perfectly placed free kick to cut the Pride's lead in half in the 70th minute. Then, in Sunday's Ivy League opener against Penn, he opened the scoring with a
left-footed blast from outside the box in the game's 13th minute.
McDaid now has a team-best three goals on the season, one off the Ivy League lead. His seven total points rank seventh in the Ancient Eight.
This is the first Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week selection for McDaid. It's the first time a Lion has been named a player of the week for an offensive performance since John Denis in 2019.
Additionally, junior midfielder
Alessandro Franciosa was named to this week's Ivy League Honor Roll. Franciosa scored the game-tying goal in the 70th minute of Sunday's 2-2 draw against the Quakers.
The Lions (1-3-3, 0-0-1 Ivy) continue league play next Saturday when they visit Yale (0-6-2, 0-1-0 Ivy). Kickoff from Reese Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m.
