
Track & Field Ready for Mets Indoor Championships on Friday

First event to start at 10 a.m.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Columbia Track & Field is back at it this weekend, competing in the Mets Indoor Championships at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island.
At the Dr. Sander Scorcher last weekend, first-years and veterans alike delivered breakthrough performances, and the Lions will hope to carry that momentum into this weekend.
Mia Hoskins reset her own program record in the women's weight throw with a mark of 18.07 meters, while Jessica Thompson cleared a personal-best 4.10 meters in the pole vault, a height that ranks 37th nationally. On the track, Jacob Van Orden set a school record in the men's 800 meters, clocking 1:48.21 in the pro-elite section.
The distance events were led by Edward Blaha, who won the men's 5000 meters in a personal-best 13:49.36, with George Blaha placing third in a personal-best 14:04.35. Ben Bergey added another podium finish, taking third in the mile with a personal-best time of 4:02.08, which ranks 60th nationally.
Columbia's depth was on display in the middle distances and sprints, highlighted by personal bests from Nicholas Hayden (1:51.60, 800m), Austin Rios-Colon (1:56.17, 800m), and Jackson Downin. Caden Cutchall placed third in the seeded 400 meters, crossing in 49.28, while the men's 4x400-meter relay finished third with a time of 3:18.61.
On the women's side, Katie Norman (7.90, 60m), Olivia Sterling (7.97, PR), Kaylee Bennett (1:01.90, PR), and Roya Amirhamzeh (1:01.91) continued to post strong sprint performances. Ava Malagisi and Leanna Johnston each recorded personal bests in the 5000 meters.
Field events rounded out the weekend, with podium finishes from Madison Williams, who placed second in the long jump, Rocco Carpinello, who took third with a leap of 7.32 meters, and Parker Kim, who placed third in the weight throw at 20.16 meters.
