Lions Post Multiple Podium Finishes at Mets Indoor Championships

Thompson captures pole vault title as Lions shine across field events
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Columbia Track & Field delivered a strong showing this weekend at the 2026 Mets Indoor Championships held at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex. The meet was highlighted by multiple Lions finishing on the podium and achieving personal bests across the men's and women's field events.
Junior Jessica Thompson led the way for the Lions, claiming first place in the women's pole vault after clearing 3.91m (12-9.94). Thompson's winning mark was followed closely by sophomore Lucy Markow, who finished second with a clearance of 3.81m (12-6).
Columbia found additional success in the jumps, as junior Norina Khanzada earned third place in the women's high jump with a personal-best clearance of 1.68m (6-2.14). Sophomore Madison Williams placed fourth in the women's long jump (5.87m, 19-3.1), while sophomore Viktoria Mihaylova secured third in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.81m (38-8.96). Sophomore Rafaela Drake rounded out the event with a seventh-place finish at 11.42m (37-5.61).
On the men's side, sophomore Collin Moore recorded a third-place finish in the high jump after clearing 1.99m (6-6.35). First-year Gavin Holcombe added another podium result for the Lions, finishing third in the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.35m (14-3.26).
The Lions also competed on the track in the women's 200 meters, where sophomore Sean O'Brien placed ninth (26.17). First-year Zayna Flynn followed with a 13th-place finish, clocking a personal-best time of 26.45.
ON DECK
Next weekend, Columbia will compete in both the Rutgers Scarlett Knight Open at the Armory and the Penn Classic in Philadelphia.
