
Lions Conclude Two-Meet Weekend

Van Orden and Clare set new school records on Saturday
NEW YORK— The Columbia Track & Field team had a successful showing this weekend at the Penn Classic and Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open. Senior Jacob Van Orden made headlines, setting a new program record in the men's 800m with a time of 1:48.16. In addition, senior Rory Clare won the 1000m with a meet and program record time of 2:41.76.
Junior Justin Gottlieb followed Van Orden with an eighth-place finish in 1:50.75, a season best, while junior Marc Dabby posted a personal-best 1:54.17 to finish 10th in the men's 800m.
Continuing the success in the women's 1000m, senior Daniela Quintero finished seventh in with a personal best 2:50.47, first-year Meredith Wolfe placed ninth in 2:52.53, and sophomore Scarlett Martin ran a personal best 2:56.07 to finish 12th.
Senior Matt Gatune placed third in the men's 1000m race with a personal-best 2:23.47, while junior Nicholas Hayden finished fourth in 2:25.08, also a personal best. First-year Liam Hanemann added a fifth-place finish in 2:28.39, and first-year Jackson Downin clocked a personal-best 2:30.55 to place eighth.
First-year Dana Lehr placed sixth in the women's 3000m Invitational with a time of 9:48.60, while junior Caroline Jankowich finished ninth in 10:00.02.
In the men's long jump, senior Joshua Adams and sophomore Rocco Carpinello tied for fourth with identical marks of 7.07m. Junior Benson Fleischer placed ninth with a 6.62m jump, and sophomore Joshua Yoon finished 10th at 6.42m.
Sophomore Madison Williams placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 5.76m, and first-year Mignonne de Beer finished eighth at 5.72m. Sophomore Viktoria Mihaylova added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.09m.
In the throws, junior Parker Kim captured first place in the men's weight throw with a mark of 19.18m. First-year Mia Hoskins recorded a 17.08m throw to finish seventh in the women's weight throw, earning the meet record.

Rutgers Scarlet Knight Open
In the women's 1000m, senior Naomi Toft led the Lions with a third-place finish in 2:56.52. Sophomore Annie Killian followed in fourth at 3:01.96, while sophomore Caroline Adams finished seventh, clocking 3:04.39.
Columbia continued its momentum in the distance events as sophomore Sofia Fenton placed fifth in the women's 3000m with a time of 10:11.58.
The Lions were especially strong in the field events. Sophomore Lucy Markow cleared 3.80m to finish second in the women's pole vault, while junior Jessica Thompson placed third with a mark of 3.60m. In the high jump, junior Norina Khanzada secured a third-place finish after clearing 1.60m.

Columbia returns to action next weekend at the BU Valentine Invitational in Boston beginning at 10 a.m on February 13. The Lions will also participate in the Yale Giegengack Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 14, with events starting at 9:30 a.m.
