Women’s Tennis Battles the Spartans at Home

Lions look to extend winning streak against Big Ten foe
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team returns home this weekend, hosting Michigan State for a nonconference clash at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Columbia clinched a decisive 4-1 over Brown to capture third at the ECAC Championships at the Lenz Tennis Center in Princeton, N.J., last weekend. The Lions jumped out to a 1-0 lead after taking a highly competitive doubles point. In singles play, Columbia's depth was on display with a win on court six, giving Columbia a 3-1 advantage. Malak El Allami clinched the win with a three-set win at the No. 2 singles spot.
ABOUT MICHIGAN STATE
The Spartans enter this weekend with a pristine 5-0 record, all coming at home, after defeating Ball State 4-2 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center on February 8. Saturday's contest will be Michigan State's first challenge of the spring, as the Spartans take to the road for the first time. Sophomore Amara Brahmbhatt is the lone Spartan ranked in the ITA rankings; she checks in at No. 116. In doubles play, the duo of Matilde Morais and Elie Blackford is ranked No. 88.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be the fourth meeting between the Lions and Spartans, all of which have come in the last four years. All-time, Columbia owns a 3-0 record against MSU, with a pair of wins coming at Michigan State in 2022 and 2024. Last time out, Columbia defeated Michigan State 4-2 at the Milstein Family Tennis Center on March 2, 2025. In that match, both Gayathri Krishnan and Malak El Allami came away with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.
