
Wrestling Gears Up for Historic Weekend

With a win on Friday, Columbia clinches a share of Ivy League Crown
NEW YORK – Columbia wrestling returns home this weekend with a chance at history on the line when it hosts Harvard and Brown for a pair of Ivy League duals. A 2-0 weekend would see the Lions capture the program's fifth Ivy League title, and first since the 1982 season.
LIVE COVERAGE
Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+. Saturday's match against Harvard will take place at Noon in the Columbia "Blue Gym," with Sunday's match starting at 1 p.m. at Levien Gym.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, Columbia had a tremendous weekend, defeating No. 22 Cornell and Arizona State in Ithaca. The win over the Big Red saw the Lions come back from an 18-6 deficit. Vincent Mueller's overtime win tied the match at 21 apiece, the Lions then claimed the victory on criteria. It was the Lions' first victory over Cornell since February 7, 1986. That same day, Columbia also defeated Big-12 opponent Arizona State in a thrilling match.

RECEIVING NATIONAL ATTENTION
The Lions received 16 votes and just missed out on a spot in the latest top 25 of the NWCA Coaches Poll. Columbia has been ranked in the top 25 once in program history, a four-week run in January 2007.
IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest rankings from Intermat and FloWrestling, Columbia has seven athletes ranked in the top-33. Aaron Ayzerov is the top-ranked grappler; he checks in at No. 15 in the FloWrestling rankings. Cesar Alvan jumped from the mid-20s to No. 17 in the latest poll by FloWrestling. Also ranked for the Lions are Lorenzo Frezza, Kai Owen, Nick Fine, Jack Wehmeyer, and Vincent Mueller.
NCAA STAT LEADERS
Through February 9, the Lions have a pair of wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in falls. Vincent Mueller and Joe Curtis are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the nation, respectively, for wins via fall. Mueller has 11 this year, while Curtis has 10 against Division I opponents. Senior Nick Fine was ranked No. 10 in tech falls two weeks ago; he sits just outside the top-10 with eight tech falls.
ALUMNI DAY
The Columbia wrestling program will celebrate its alumni during Sunday's dual match against Brown. Alumni in attendance will be recognized during a ceremony that will take place halfway through the dual match.
ABOUT THE CRIMSON
Harvard enters Saturday's dual fresh after being off last weekend. Before that, they split with Princeton and Penn, defeating the Tigers for the second time in the last four years. Overall, the Crimson are 4-5 and are 1-2 in Ivy League Duals. On the road, they are 1-1 this season.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST HARVARD
Saturday will be the 95th meeting between Columbia and Harvard, with the Lions holding a 52-40-2 advantage in the series dating back to 1917. Last time out, the Lions defeated Harvard 32-8 on February 15, 2025.
ABOUT THE BEARS
Brown enters this week 3-7 overall and 0-3 in the Ivy League. Last time out, the Bears were swept at home by Penn and Princeton. The Bears have four starters ranked in the first RPI, led by No. 14 Alex Semeneko (285). The matchup between Semenenko and Mueller will feature two of the top pin artists in the country, with Semenenko third in the NCAA with nine wins via fall.
