Retooled lineup gives Lions a comfortable win
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Columbia women's tennis team cruised to a comfortable win in the third-place match at the ECAC Indoor Championships at the Lenz Tennis Center on Sunday. The Lions shuffled its singles lineup en route to a 4-1 win over Brown to capture third.
The doubles point proved to be the tightest competition on Sunday, with Columbia snatching the point thanks to a strong showing on court three from Emily Baek and Sophia Wang. The duo held on to defeat Ali Maguy and Anne Yang 7-5.
Columbia (4-2) notched the first victory of the afternoon when Gayathri Krishnan and Sabrina Lin defeated Chloe Qin and Abigail Lee 6-2. It was Krishnan and Lin's third doubles victory of the weekend; the duo improved to 13-2 on the year and 5-0 in the spring.
In singles play, Krishnan made quick work of Ali Maguy at the top singles spot, a bump from the number two spot from the previous day, winning 6-2, 6-2. The shakeup at the top spot saw Malak El Allami move to the No. 2 singles spot, where she defeated Hanna Shen 0-6, 6-0, 6-3 to give the Lions a 3-1 lead and clinch the match.
After Brown (5-2) got a win on court four, Michelle Li halted the Bears' momentum with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sari Woo on court six. It was Li's third singles match of the spring, and she improved to 2-1.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, February 14, when it hosts Michigan State at the Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center. The match against the Spartans is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
