Lions drop first match of conference play
PRINCETON, N.J. – The 61st Columbia women's tennis team dropped its first conference match of 2025-26, falling to No. 48 Princeton 4-2 on Sunday at the Lenz Tennis Center.
With the loss, Columbia's winning streak ends at eight matches. The Lions fall to 14-4 in dual matches and are 4-1 in conference play.
Princeton (17-2, 5-0 Ivy) is the lone undefeated team in conference play following Sunday's win.
The Tigers took control of the match early, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage after taking the doubles point and the first two singles matches.
In doubles play, the Tigers' top duo of Tsehay Driscoll and Pearlie Zhang defeated the Lions' top duo of Gayathri Krishnan and Sabrina Lin, 6-3.
Princeton clinched the doubles point on court two when Bella Chhiv and Eva Elbaz defeated Amber Yin and Michelle Li 6-3. Emily Baek and Sophia Wang were tied 4-4 in their doubles match when it was abandoned.
Jessup continued the Tigers' momentum with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Hui on Court No. 4. Princeton moved one point closer to clinching the match when Chhiv defeated Baek 6-2, 6-1 on Court No. 2.
Trailing 3-0, the Lions made it a match thanks to wins from Yin and Li. Yin got the Lions on the board with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Tsehay Driscoll on court No. 6. Li continued her run of strong singles play with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Zhang on No. 5.
The Tigers closed out the match when Alice Ferlito defeated Gayathri Krishnan 6-4, 7-6 on court No. 1.
Columbia returns to action on Saturday, April 18, when they travel to Cambridge, Mass., to take on Harvard. First serve between the Lions and Crimson is scheduled for 1 p.m.
