Formosa claims Second Team status after leading Columbia in stroke average
NEW YORK — First year Alejandro Formosa earned Second Team All-Ivy League honors to highlight the Columbia men's golf team's All-Ivy League selections. The league announced its 2025-26 postseason honors and awards on Wednesday, as voted on by the eight head coaches.
Joining Formosa from Columbia are senior George Rubelsky and first year Neil Kulkarni, both of whom were named Honorable Mention All-Ivy League. Senior Darren Pang is Columbia's Academic All-Ivy League honoree. Each of the league's eight institutions is represented by one member.
Formosa posted a team-leading 73.72 stroke average in his rookie campaign. He competed in 10 events, totaling 29 rounds, with two top-five, three top-10 and six top-25 finishes. He was runner-up in his very first collegiate tournament, The Metropolis Intercollegiate (Sept. 8-9), shooting a three-round total of 2-over-par 212 at Metropolis Country Club. The first year from San Mateo, California, finished top 25 in three of four fall events. He then came on down the stretch in the spring, earning a top 25 at the Princeton Invitational (April 11-12), solo third in the 90-player Roar-EE Invitational (April 18) and earning seventh at the 2026 Ivy League Championship at Baltusrol (April 24-26). He shot a season-low 5-under-par 67 at the Roar-EE Invitational and earned the highest finish from Columbia at the Ivy Championship.
Rubelsky posted an even 74.00 stroke average with one top-five, four top-10 and six top-25 finishes in 11 events. He posted a season-low tournament score of 6-under-par 207 to help the Lions win the Columbia Autumn Invitational at Lake Placid Club (Sept. 27-28). That was the start of a string of five straight top 25s for the senior from Phoenix, Arizona, which included finishing top 10 in three out of four tournaments, tying for eighth at the Red Flash Invitational (Oct. 6-7) and tying for ninth at the Sam Ryder Intercollegiate (Mar. 2-3). He capped his collegiate career with a top 10 at the Ivy League Championship, which included a final-round 2-under-par 70 at Baltusrol's Lower Course.
Kulkarni posted a 74.10 stroke average, including a team-leading 72.33 stroke average during the fall season. He competed in all 11 events, earning two top-five, three top-10 and eight top-25 finishes, the most on the team. Kulkarni was runner-up out of 80 players to lead the Lions to the Columbia Autumn Invitational title, posting a 54-hole score of 8-under-par 205 with rounds of 68, 69 and 68. He finished top 25 in three of four fall events, and then ended the spring with five straight top-25 finishes. The rookie was runner-up for a second time with an even-par 213 at the Princeton Invitational, tied for eighth at the Roar-EE Invitational, and was tied for 12th in his first Ivy League Championship.
