Zeng, Xu finish top 30 in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A historic 2025-26 Columbia women's golf season ended at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional on Wednesday. The 10th-seeded Lions finished 10th in the 12-team regional, which was hosted at the University of Michigan Golf Course.
Leading the Lions at the regional were a pair of first years, Emily Zeng and Kristina Xu. Zeng tied for 24th with a three-round total of 7-over-par 220 (70-75-75). Xu climbed five spots on the leaderboard with a final-round 73 to finish in the top 30 at 9 over par (73-76-73). Starting at the 10th, she made the turn at 3 over, and went on to birdie three of her final nine holes to come home in 1-under 35.
Another highlight on Wednesday was first year Bridget Chantharath. She was substituted into the lineup for the final round and impressed with a 1-over-par 72 in her NCAA Regional debut. Chantharath carded three bogeys and two birdies. Her 72 tied for the seventh-best round of the day.
Columbia ended the regional with a three-round score of 51-over-par 903. They were 21 shots clear of MAAC Champion Quinnipiac and 31 in front of Horizon League Champion Oakland.
Southern California won the regional at 1 over par. The No. 2-ranked Trojans beat out 29th-ranked Ohio State by five for the regional title. No. 10 Duke (+16), No. 32 Northwestern (+17) and No. 48 Texas Tech rounded out the top five teams that earned the right to advance to the 2026 NCAA Women's Golf Championship site. Eight of the 12 teams in the Ann Arbor Regional field were ranked inside the top 50 nationally.
Head coach Amy Weeks and assistant coach Katie Rudolph, who were named the Ivy League Women's Golf Coaching Staff of the Year, led the Lions to their first Ivy League Championship and first NCAA Regional since 2007. It was the icing on top of a record 2025-26 season in which Columbia won two of its nine events, finished runner-up twice and earned a record six top-three team finishes.
Along the way, Columbia set new team records in single-round score and 54-hole score. The Lions first broke the single-round record at the Windy City Collegiate Classic with a 2-under-par 286, and then broke it again with a 6-under-par 282 at the Space Coast Classic (Feb. 21). They broke the 54-hole team record with a 14-over-par 866 at the Princeton Invitational (Oct. 4-5).
Xu ends her 2025-26 rookie season with a stroke average of 73.50, which is a new team record. The previous record was set just last season by sophomore Christine Chang, who posted a 74.32 during her rookie campaign. The unanimous First Team All-Ivy League selection won two events this season, including her first collegiate tournament, the Battle at the Creek (Sept. 15-16). She later earned co-medalist honors at the Princeton Invitational (Oct. 4-5).
Zeng, a Second Team All-Ivy honoree, missed all of the fall season due to injury, but became the second Lion to win a tournament with a victory at the More Than Golf Invitational (Mar. 1-3). She led Columbia to the title, which was its first team victory in nearly a decade.
The record-breaking season culminated at the 2026 Ivy League Championship. The Lions overcame a two-shot deficit entering the final round with their best round of the tournament of 2-over-par 290. They caught Harvard and won the championship by seven shots to hoist the trophy at Baltusrol Golf Club. Sophomores Sarah Shao and Christine Chang placed in the top five and were named to the Ivy League All-Championship Team.
