Five Lions in the top 10 after Round 1
LEWISBURG, Pa. — The reigning Ivy League champions are off to a good start. After the first round of the season, the Columbia women's golf team is in front at the Bucknell Fall Invitational. Meanwhile, Christine Chang is the individual co-leader with an opening-round even-par 70.
The Lions have two teams of five participating in the event. Four players on Columbia's A team each shot an opening-round 3-over-par 73. They included reigning unanimous First Team All-Ivy League selection Kristina Xu, Second Team All-Ivy honoree Emily Zeng, sophomore Bridget Chantharath and first-year Juliana Hong. The round was the first of Hong's collegiate career.
Behind those performances, Columbia posted a 12-over-par 292 in Round 1 at Bucknell Golf Club. The Lions lead the host Bison by two shots.
Just six off the lead and in third place is Columbia's B team. That squad features individual co-leader Christine Chang, who carded three birdies, one bogey and a double at the par-4 14th to shoot her even-par round. She shares the top spot on the individual leaderboard with Bucknell's Joelle Johnson. Sophomore Camille Thai is tied for 16th after an opening-round 75. Coco Wang, making her collegiate debut, shot a 76 and is in the top 20.
Sixteen teams representing 14 women's college golf programs are competing this weekend. Round 2 is scheduled for Saturday, followed by the third and final round on Sunday.
