Women’s Tennis Kicks Off Fall Slate at ITA All-Americans

Four Lions will compete in first fall competition
NEW YORK – The Columbia women's tennis team begins its 2025-26 season on Saturday, when a select group of Lions competes at the ITA All-American Championships at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Held annually since 1983, the ITA All-American Championships is a top qualifying event for the NCAA Championships. It runs in three stages: pre-qualifying (Sept. 19-20), qualifying (Sept. 21-22) and the main draw (Sept. 23-27). Columbia will have four women competing in singles and one doubles pair.
Gayathri Krishnan and newcomers Kenzie Nguyen and Amy Lee begin play in the qualifiers on Saturday. Sophomore newcomer Margot Phanthala qualified for the main draw, which begins Wednesday.
Krishnan enters her senior season with 73 career wins. The native of Cupertino, Calif., is coming off a strong junior campaign in which she earned First Team All-Ivy Honors for the second consecutive year.
First-years Amy Lee and Kenzie Nguyen are part of Columbia's stellar incoming class. The Lions class was rated No. 13 in the nation according to Tennisrecruiting.net.
Phanthala, a sophomore, joins the Lions after a year at Northwestern, where she played primarily at the No. 1 spot for the Wildcats.
