Lions goalkeeper Margot Houle made six saves to earn her second shutout of the season
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Three different goal scorers powered Columbia field hockey to a 3-0 shutout victory over Brown on Friday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field.
Izzy Kaczor, Lizzie Adams, and Jacinta Solari Etcheberry each found the back of the cage and were responsible for eight of Columbia's nine shots in the win. Mckenzie Bloom tallied two assists for the Lions (4-3, 1-1). Goalkeeper Margot Houle stopped all six of Brown's shots on goal for her second shutout of the year.
Kaczor netted her fifth goal of the year off a centering pass from Madison Kim 10:11 into the match. The Lions held their 1-0 lead through the end of the first quarter despite Brown (3-4, 0-2) firing off five shots and getting three on goal in the period.
Columbia had a chance to double its lead with 2:49 left in the second quarter when Jacinta Solari Etcheberry was awarded a penalty stroke. She shot left on the ground but was denied by Brown goalkeeper Kylee Del Monte. Houle turned away three Brown shots in the frame to keep it 1-0 at the half.
With 10:16 remaining in the third quarter, Adams doubled Columbia's lead with a sharp shot from just outside the circle following a penalty corner. Delfina Gonzalez Lobo and Bloom were credited with the assists.
The Lions put the match away with 3:42 to play when Jacinta Solari Etcheberry ripped her seventh goal of the season into the back of the cage. Like Adams' goal, Solari Etcheberry's tally came off a penalty corner from a similar spot. The Santiago, Chile, native has scored in five straight games and is tied for the league lead in goals.
Columbia hosts No. 19 Monmouth on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Columbia Field Hockey Complex for the Lions' Morgan's Message Match.
