PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Columbia won both relays and had five top-two finishes to remain in second place of nine teams after day two at the Rutgers Super Splash. One day of competition still remains.

The day opened with a Lion triumph in the 200 medley relay as junior Luke Fitzpatrick, junior Michael Nelson, senior Ben Neuwirth and junior Tobin White swam 1:33.82 to finish 0.49 seconds ahead of the host Scarlet Knights. The same Columbia foursome also won the 400 medley relay yesterday.

Columbia bookended the meet with a victory in the 800 free. First-years Hyun Lee, Kevin Wakefield and Cedric Cheung-Lau swam the first three legs and White anchored as Columbia posted a time of 6:46.09, more than two seconds faster than Rutgers, which took second in 6:48.23.

Lee and White chalked up 55 points for the Lions by finishing first and second, respectively, in the 200 free in 1:39.58 and 1:39.83. No other swimmer among the 28-competitors broke 1:42 for the event. Waksfield was eighth in 1:42.64.

Nelson was Columbia's other top-two finisher. He swam 57.68 for the 100 breast for second place behind the College of New Jersey's Steve Swenson (57.16).

Neuwirth had a top-five finish in the 100 fly; he finished fourth in 50.98.

The Lions have a two-day score of 744 and trail Rutgers by 45 points.
