PRINCETON, N.J. -- Although Columbia was unable to threaten Princeton, the nation's top-ranked women's rowing team, the 20th-ranked Lions turned in several solid showings, taking the second spot in three races in a regatta on Lake Carnegie which also featured Georgetown and Rutgers.

Columbia was closest to the Tigers in the second varsity race, just 11.4 seconds back, and 3.7 seconds ahead of Rutgers. The varsity event saw Princeton win by more than four lengths, but Columbia hold off Georgetown, by 7.4 seconds, and Rutgers.

The Tigers were timed in 6:21.8 to Columbia's 6:44.2. The Hoyas were third in 6:51.6, and Rutgers fourth in 6:53.

In the novice eights, the Lions also were runners-up, in 7:05.2, with Rutgers third in 7:13.7. Princeton won in 6:32.9. Columbia was fourth in one four-oared race, and took third and fourth in the other.
