LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - After one teammate dropped out of the competition due to illness, the Lions were still able to finish fourth in the team competition at the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships.
Junior Stephanie Miller, who was leading the competition after the first day, did not compete in the team competition nor did she shoot the final two qualifying rounds after coming down with a virus. She was replaced by first-year Emma Gillespie and after a first round bye, the team lost to the eventual champion, Stanford. Next, they were defeated again in the bronze medal match against James Madison.
In the last of the qualifying rounds, senior Xiao Hui Chin continued to excel, shooting a score of 1313 out of a possible 1400 to finish as the eighth seed in the compound rounds. Fellow compound shooter, first-year Amanda McDermott held on to the 10th position.
In the women's recurve division, first-year Sara Mancini finished strong, moving up to the eighth spot.
The Lions will compete in the final day of competition today, Sunday, May 21st, shooting the individual elimination rounds.
