LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - Senior compound shooter Xiao Hui Chin was the highest finisher for the Lions, placing sixth overall in the compound division at the U.S. Intercollegiate Archery Championships. Three other archers also finished in the top ten in their respective divisions.
After finishing eighth in the qualifying rounds, Chin squared off against Kim Dobbins, defeating her 103-82. She then faced Michelle Wright from Penn College and won by one point, 106-105. Next, Chin battled the top seed in the competition, Brittany Lorenti from James Madison, losing a close match, 111-110.
Also finishing in the top ten in the compound division was first-year Amanda McDermott, who took ninth place. McDermott started out the competition seeded 10th and faced Lindsey Fackley of Penn College in the first round, winning handedly, 105-74. In the next round, McDermott took on Joayn Fleury (James Madison) and lost 110-106.
In the recurve division, first-year Sara Mancini finished seventh overall while sophomore Robin Liang finished 10th. Mancini started the elimination rounds seeded 10th and faced Sage Adams from Texas A&M, winning 89-69. Up next was Stephanie Gilmore of Cal State Long Beach, who Mancini also defeated, this time 95-72. In the quarterfinals, Mancini came head-to-head with the first overall seed and eventual gold medal winner Lindsay Pian (Arizona State) and lost 101-75.
Liang entered into the elimination rounds as the 13th seed and defeated first-year teammate Emma Gillespie 94-76 to move on to the next round. Up next was Danielle McCullough of Westminster College, who defeated Liang by one point, 95-94.
All four of the Lions' top finishers were named All-American at the end of the competition.
