Marisa Hanson
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
Marisa Hanson is a graduate of Penn State University, where she played softball for the Nittany Lions for four seasons. One of the top pitchers to ever don a Penn State uniform, Hanson participated in the NCAA Tournament three times and recorded 48 victories in the circle from 2001-04. She concluded her career one win shy of the then-school record of 49 wins set by Jaci Kalp. A true workhorse in the circle, Hanson finished her career as the Nittany Lions’ then-all-time leader in starts (100), appearances (134) and innings pitched (631.1).
In 2003, she was one of Penn State’s recipients of the inaugural Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. She posted a career-best 1.50 ERA and a team-high 13 wins in 2003. Despite suffering a broken jaw late in the 2003 season, Hanson came back to make eight more appearances. Her career-best 17-win 2002 season ranks as one of the best in Penn State history.
On March 7, 2002, Hanson threw the sixth no-hitter in Penn State history, striking out six and shutting down Hofstra for six scoreless and hitless innings in an 8-0 run-rule victory.
