Grant Wall enters his second season as an assistant coach at Columbia. Wall joined the Lion staff in 2006, after a highly-successful tenure on the track & field staff at Miami of Ohio.
He joined the Miami staff in 1998 as a graduate assistant, and was a volunteer assistant coach from 1999 to 2001. He became a full-time assistant for the RedHawks in 2001.
Wall worked with the weight throwers, javelin throwers and pole vaulters, among Miami’s field events competitors, plus the 800-meter runners and decathlon specialists. He designed and implemented physical, technical, strength training and off-season training programs for his athletes.
He developed Miami’s all-time hammer throw record-holder, a two-time All-American and conference champion, and coached two MAC runner-ups in the decathlon. He also coached regional qualifiers in the pole vault and hammer. Wall coached 10 of Miami’s all-time top ten performers in the decathlon and field events.
Wall worked closely with academic coordinators in monitoring his student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility. Eleven of his athletes were honored by the Mid-American Conference for academic excellence.
A native of Columbus, Wall attended Westerville North High. He first entered Ohio Northern University, transferring to Ohio State. He ran cross country for both. He graduated from Ohio State in 1998 with a B.S. in education, and received an M.S. in sports organization from Miami in 2005.
