John Strang joined Willy Woods’ staff in the summer of 2010, as an assistant coach who will work with the pole vaulters, throwers and decathletes/heptathletes.
A former All-American and five-time Western Athletic Conference (WAC) champion in the decathlon and heptathlon, Strang comes to Columbia after graduating from Utah State in 2009. He spent one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, helping coach several athletes to personal bests, WAC Championships and one NCAA All-American. Strang also placed fifth at the 2010 USA Track & Field Indoor Championships in the heptathlon, and was a part of five WAC championship teams in the last four years, as both an athlete and a coach.
