Fran Boone
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
A former dual-sport NCAA Division I student-athlete, Fran Boone began her tenure as an assistant coach on head coach Paul Nixon's staff in the fall of 2011. Boone was a
two-sport star in both basketball and softball at Colgate, and is
currently employed as a program coordinator at the Columbia School of
Law. She will work with Columbia's guards, and manage the program's film exchange.
"Fran brings a wealth of experience to our program from a variety of athletic arenas, and we are fortunate she has chosen to join our program as an assistant coach," Nixon says. "She is one of the most accomplished student-athletes in the history of the Colgate athletics program, and her passion for basketball remains strong. Her experience as a coach at the high school level will serve her well with our program. While Fran is a teacher at heart, she is a true professional in everything that she undertakes, and she will be a great role model for our young student-athletes."
The first African-American woman in Colgate history to earn eight varsity letters, Boone was a four-year member of both the women's basketball and softball teams. She was a two-time All-Patriot League selection in both sports, and was a first-team all-region selection in softball in 1998.
In 1999, Boone was a member of the Raiders' first Patriot League softball championship team and set a career high with a .300 batting average.
In basketball, Boone lead the squad in steals all four years, setting a school record for steals in a season (96) and the freshman record for steals in a game (6). Boone finished her career second on the all-time list in the category. She was also the Raiders' leading scorer as a junior and senior.
Boone came to Columbia in 2009, after spending six years as a high school math teacher in Westchester and Brooklyn, New York. During her teaching years, Boone coached high school softball and was a member of the boy’s junior varsity basketball staff at Bishop Ford High school.
