Former Columbia standout Sam Warren '13CC returned to her alma mater in June 2016 to serve as assistant coach. In July 2021 Warren was promoted to Associate Head Coach.
Warren has coached the JV eight and the Varsity four primarily during her time. Most notably the varsity four finishing third at the 2019 Eastern Sprints.
Warren is also the head coach of the U23 Arion program which is a high-performance sculling camp at Saratoga Rowing Association. Her work there resulted in a variety of medals at the USRowing National Championship and the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. She coached an openweight women’s double that won the U23 U.S. trials in 2018, which secured their bid to represent the U.S. at the 2018 U23 World Championships in the women’s openweight double category.
Before coaching Warren trained at the Olympic Training Center in Princeton, New Jersey, from the fall of 2013-2015. She competed at multiple USRowing selections regattas and won the 2014 Fall Speed Order. Also placing second at the 2015 National Selection Regatta in the women’s openweight double. While training in Princeton she served as the novice coach at The Hun School of Princeton during the spring of 2014.
Warren is a 2013 graduate of Columbia College with a degree in Art History. During her time at Columbia she was a two-time captain of the squad and helped the Lions to a No. 15 team ranking during the 2012-13 season. That season the Varsity eight posted wins over Yale and Brown at the Connell Cup and Dunn Bowl, both of which were firsts in program history as well as winning the 2013 Eastern Sprints in the Varsity eight.
Over her junior and senior years, she earned CRCA first team All-America honors, second team All-America honors, and two Fiirst Team All-Region selections. During her career, Warren was the recipient of both Columbia’s Ed Hewitt Award for leadership and the Women’s Crew Award, named to the team’s most outstanding rower.
In international competition, she represented the United States on the 2009 Junior National Team in the Women’s Quad, as well as the 2012 and 2013 U23 National Teams in the Women’s Quad and Women’s Four, respectively.
